Identity Theft Education & Document Shredding

Washington Township and the Sheriff's Office help residents take a proactive approach to identity theft by hosting Super Saturday events.

During Super Saturday events, a Washington Township deputy is on site to answer questions. Law enforcement experts recommend that people shred important documents, such as invoices, bank statements, canceled checks, medical records, and credit card receipts.

Residents can drop off up to 12 grocery-size bags at each Super Saturday event. These bags may contain paper, data storage materials, and credit cards. Documents will be securely shredded.

Examples of sensitive personal documents (including photocopies):

• Bank statements

• Credit cards

• Credit reports

• Driver's licenses

• Medical records

• Mortgage applications or paperwork

• Social Security information

• Tax returns

Examples of items that are NOT considered sensitive:

• Business invitations

• Children's artwork

• Greeting cards

• Junk mail

• Magazines

• Newspapers

• Telephone books

• Wrapping paper

Items that are not considered sensitive should be put in your recycling bin for weekly pick up by your waste hauler.
