Street Maintenance, Repair & Improvement

Washington Township's Public Works Department oversees the construction, improvement, and maintenance of 152 miles of Township roads, including sidewalks, traffic signs, traffic signals, curbs, and gutters. The total number of lane miles is about 321.

The department also manages contracts for the annual street improvement program, sidewalk projects, some street rehabilitation programs, and road improvement projects.

Please note that some roads that run through Washington Township are maintained by the state, county, or City of Centerville. Those roads are listed below.



Street Improvement Program

Streets within this program are determined through a Pavement Condition Index. When inspecting pavement, Public Works crews look at the surface and edge for cracking and distress, review the ride, and rate the overall structure of each street. They also assess curb, sidewalk, and storm pipe and drainage, which can impact the asphalt, as well as overall project costs. Finally, they assess neighboring streets and the level of traffic in the neighborhood. These observations determine when each road is scheduled for resurfacing. Once all pavement inspection is complete, the department uses that information to forecast future infrastructure projects.

2025 Infrastructure Projects

Township street improvements focus primarily on residential areas and are comprised of two phases.

  • Phase 1 includes concrete curb and sidewalk repair. Construction on curbs and sidewalks begins in the spring.

  •  Phase 2 includes asphalt milling and paving. This work is performed later in the summer.

Roads Maintained by the State, County, and City of Centerville 

Some roads in Washington Township are either state or Montgomery County roads. Other roads run through both Washington Township and the City of Centerville, so they may be maintained by the either the Township or the City, depending upon the location.

The following roads are not maintained by the Township's Public Works Department:

State Roads

The Ohio Department of Transportation is responsible for these roads:

  • I-675 and ramps

  • State Route 725

County Roads

Montgomery County maintains the following roads:

  • Alex-Bell Road

  • Austin Pike

  • Clyo Road (south of Franklin)

  • Mad River Road

  • Paragon Road (from 725 to Spring Valley)

  • Rahn Road (from Mad River to 48)

  • Social Row Road

  • Spring Valley Pike (east of 48)

  • West Whipp Road

  • Yankee Street
