July 28, 2025 Update:
The City of Centerville, in partnership with Montgomery County, is planning roadway improvements to Clyo Road between St. Leonard Way and Ole Quaker Court. The project includes widening Clyo Road to a consistent three-lane roadway with a center turn lane. A new traffic signal is proposed at Dimco Way and upgraded pedestrian and bicycle facilities will be added throughout the project limits.
What is the preferred design alternative?
The preferred alternative consists of:
-
A 3-lane cross section with a center turn lane
-
A 11-foot shared use path on the east side
-
A 5-foot sidewalk on the west side
-
Installation of a traffic signal at Dimco Way
-
Enhanced crosswalks and ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities
-
Minor realignment of the curve near Quaker Way to improve safety
Why is this project needed?
The extension of Dimco Way will introduce a new access point to Centerville High School, resulting in notable changes to traffic patterns for vehicles entering and existing the campus. This new connection is expected to ease school-related congestion along Franklin Street by providing direct access to student parking and parent drop-off/pick-up areas from Clyo Road. With this additional route, vehicles currently using Franklin Street to access the school from Clyo Road will have the option to utilize Dimco Way instead, reducing traffic volumes on Franklin Street and improving overall campus circulation.
